People with disabilities, and their famililies, can find greater independence and self-direction by practicing Consumer Directed Community Supports (CDCS) through PICS. If you are not familiar with CDCS, please read our brief What is CDCS page.
There was a time when people with disabilities had little choice about the care they received. Today, systems are changing to give people more choice and greater self-determination. CDCS is a cornerstone of this movement. It allows people with disabilities to design their own long-term care plans. They can bring services into their home, hire friends or family members as caregivers, make home modifications, build respite activities into their budgets - and that's just the beginning.
To practice CDCS in Minnesota, one of the following services is required: Community Alternative Care (CAC) Waiver, Community Alternatives for Disabled Individuals (CADI) Waiver, Managed Care, or Mental Retardation/Related Conditions (MR/RC) Waiver.
Through our own services for people with disabilities, and through strong relationships with organizations like Arc Greater Twin Cities, PICS is dedicated to increasing self-direction and personal fulfillment among Minnesotans with disabilities.
For more info on CDCS and how it can work for you, contact Beth Peterson.
